Judy medical clinic!

“I stopped on the roadside weeping, feeling helpless and hopeless, and held Calib high above my head and offered him to my God, praying that it was up to Him now. I wept.” —Sabuli

As Sabuli walked back home that dark night, she promised that if this child lived, she would build a clinic for the orphans.

On 3 February 2020, this new clinic treated the first of her orphans, Salome. We cry tears of joy!

FIRST BORN AT JUDY MEDICAL CLINIC!

Earlier this month Ruth gave birth to Jeanne (to be called “WJ”). Because this new clinic is able to provide good prenatal care, doctors were prepared to safely deliver the baby by Cesarean Delivery, as it was in a breech position. Both mother & baby are doing well! This was a dream of Sabuli’s––to provide much needed prenatal, maternal and infant care, all to help stop the cycle of orphanhood and infant mortality. Thank you MVPC for this generous gift!

salome is the first child treated at new clinic

Salome is Sabuli’s first child to be welcomed and treated at the new Dr. Judy Medical Clinic. Salome contracted malaria and his health was failing quickly. For the first time, Sabuli and her staff knew exactly where to bring one of their little ones with an urgent medical need. Salome was immediately welcomed and treatment began. He spent the night at the clinic and is recovering well.

the story behind the judy medical clinic

Sabuli walked for miles during one dark night clutching a malnourished dying infant as she tried to find medical help. When she finally reached the local hospital she was turned away and sent to a pharmacy. When she reached the pharmacy she was told that they could not help her and advised her to go back home and begin feeding this dying infant sugar water. After that harrowing night 3 years ago Sabuli dreamed of a small medical clinic—a clinic primarily for her orphaned children—so that they would never again be at the brink of death with no option for medical care.

The infant that Sabuli carried that dark night throughout the village—the infant that inspired Sabuli’s dream for a medical clinic—is a thriving toddler today who loves to play futbol with his older siblings.

This new clinic is the generous gift from an MVPC (Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church) family.

JUDY MEDICAL CLINIC provides humanitarian eye care

This new Medical Clinic was used during January 2020 by a visiting Kinshasa Ophthalmologist, Dr. Mbaya, who offered humanitarian eye exams and surgery. More than eighty people lined up on the opening day for eye care. The next several days brought relief to dozens of Gemena residents suffering from cataracts, glaucoma, and eye injuries. There are no other options for comprehensive eye care in this village.

This clinic is the generous gift from an MVPC (Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church) family. It is already changing lives!

the plan

Sabuli’s long term plan is to bring much needed health care and education to pregnant village women. When women receive prenatal care and education there is a far greater chance of successfully delivering a full-term healthy baby.

Far too many women do not receive prenatal care. The maternal death rate is high. When a young mother dies in childbirth, often a family is destroyed. Not only does the newborn lose their mother, but there are often other children at home who are then at risk of becoming orphans.

In addition to providing basic prenatal care and education, the clinic is beginning to provide care for higher risk pregnancies and deliveries as well as much needed infant care.
